Christian IX (1874)

A whole plate negative. A port side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the general cargo steamship Christian IX (1874) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has a 3 masted topsail schooner auxiliary rig and two men are working up her foremast. Some spritsail barges and Tilbury Fort Watergate are in the background. Negatives Numbers G1494, G1495 and G1512 were taken on the same occasion. The emulsion of this negative has peeled off and the negative has been discarded but a 12x10 photographic print produced in the 1950s is available for scanning.
