An 8x6 sheet film negative. A copy of a painting showing a port very near broadside view of the paddle tug City of London (1863) under way in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is a twin funnelled tug and is seen from just abaft the beam. The Coast Guard Watch Vessel CGWV 28 (1847) is on the Tilbury shore in the background. The clarity of the background suggests that a photographic print was used and the detailing of the tug, her name, crew members, funnel smoke, steam, flags and the waves on the river were painted on. F.C. Gould Harmer St Gravesend is hand written twice in the bottom right corner of the photograph. This is an acetate sheet film copy of the original glass plate negative number G1649 and it has now reticulated and been discarded.
