Iona (1883)
A whole plate negative. A very poor quality distant port broadside view of the passenger/cargo coastal liner Iona (1883) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. The Coast Guard Watch Vessel CGWV 28 (1847) is on the Tilbury shore in the right background. The original negative has lost its emulsion and has been discarded. A 12x10 photographic print produced in the early 1950s from this negative is available but the negative at that time was badly stained and had cracked emulsion and the resulting photograph is very poor. Negative number G1702 was taken on the same occasion but this has also been discarded.
