An unidentified ship rigged foreign steam warship off Tilbury

A whole plate negative. A fair quality satrboard side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of an unidentified foreign warship at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She is a ship rigged steam vessel with ram bow, of similar appearence to the German Navy corvettes Ariadne (1871) and Luise (1872). Her topgallant yards have been sent down, her forward boat davits are empty and her aft boats have been swung out. She has a pilot house immediately ahead of the mizzen mast. Her flag is indistinct. Tilbury is in the background. The original negative has peeled off and been discarded. A 12x10 photographic print produced from the original negative in the 1950s is available for scanning. A quarter plate glass negative has been produced by copying this photograph and has been given the negative number P8548.
