Indus (1871)

A whole plate negative. A fair quality port near broadside view, taken from just ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Indus (1871) at moorings in Gravesend Reach, River Thames. She has been re-boilered and fitted with a new funnel and she has an auxiliary barque rig with three yards on each of her fore and main masts. A full set of awnings is rigged and she is flying the blue peter. Tilbury is in the background. Negatives numbers G2128, G2138 and G2143 were taken on the same occasion. The original negative has peeled and been discarded. A 12x10 photograph print produced from the negative in the 1950s is available for scanning.
