Doric (1883)
A quarter plate negative. A starboard side view, taken from well ahead of the beam, of the passenger/cargo liner Doric (1883) at anchor in Gravesend Reach, River Thames, prior to her departure on her maiden voyage to New Zealand. She is lightly laden and has a four masted barque rig with yards on her fore, main and mizzen masts. Tilbury is in the background. She was completed 4 July 1883 and sailed for New Zealand 26 July 1883. A Gould copy of a whole plate negative that has not survived but is very similar to negative number G2175.
