A quarter plate negative. A copy of a painting depicting a passenger/cargo liner almost engulfed amidships by a wave during a storm at sea. The vessel is seen from ahead of her port beam and is similar in most respects to the liners of the Pacific Steam Navigation Company built in the 1871 to 1873 period. She has a clipper bow with spike bowsprit, a single funnel and an auxiliary barque rig. Ships of this appearance include Lusitania (1871), Chimborazo (1871), Cuzco (1871), Garonne (1871), Aconcagua (1872), Sorata (1872) and Cotopaxi (1873).
