Rothesay (1957)

A quarter plate negative. The Royal Navy frigate Rothesay (1957) in the fitting out berth of Yarrow & Co Ltd at Scotstoun, Glasgow. The photographer is in an elevated position on the quayside to port abreast the 4.5 inch gun turret looking aft, to starboard and down on the ship. Everything forward of the bridge is out of the picture, as is the top of the foremast. Nearly all of the fittings are covered, including the T.A.S. sights and azimuth repeaters in the port bridge wing, the air lookout sights on either side abaft the bridge roof, the G.D.O. sight and communication panels on the enclosed bridge top and the signal projectors on platforms either side of the Mark 6M 'frogeye' director. Abaft the director on a short lattice mast is the aerial for the Type 977Q radar. On 1 deck is the 25 feet motor cutter in its davits, a trainable twin set of 21 inch torpedo tubes and four single 21 inch torpedo tubes fixed to fire 45° abaft the beam. On 2 deck are the two Mark 10 Limbo mortars in their well. On the short lattice mainmast is the aerial for the type 944 radar. In the background on the opposite side of the river is Silcocks Mills at Renfrew. This negative was taken askew with the horizon being at a 45° angle.
