Yarmouth (1959) under construction
A 3½x4¾ glass plate negative. The Type 12 frigate Yarmouth (1959) under construction in the East Yard of John Brown & Co Ltd's shipyard at Clydebank. The photographer is looking down from a crane on the port side of the berth showing prefabricated sections of the keel and lower hull on the building blocks on the berth. The section 47 to 53 is held in place by a crane and the section 53 to 58 is supported on timber struts. A small group of men are working inside the hull near station 53, presumably welding the two sections together. On the adjoining berth in the background is the tanker Lincoln (1958), yard number 707, under construction. Both the negative and the original negative bag have the date 25.12.57 written on them in ink but it would be unusual for work to be in progress on Christmas Day.
