A half-plate negative. Guests gathered on the launching platform in the East Yard of John Brown & Co Ltd's shipyard at Clydebank for the naming and launching of the Type 12 frigate Yarmouth (1959), taken from abreast the port bow of the ship. The ship's sponsor, Mrs Maureen Catherine Allan, is holding a pair of scissors and is standing to the left of the microphone. On her right are Sir James McFadyen McNeill, Deputy Chairman, and Lord Aberconway, Chairman of John Brown & Co Ltd. Her husband, Robert Alexander Allan, DSO, OBE, MP, Financial Secretary to the Admiralty, is to the right of the microphone. The top left corner of the negative has been cracked and repaired with tape.
