A 4x5 glass plate negative. Guests gathered on the launching platform in the East Yard of John Brown & Co Ltd's shipyard at Clydebank for the naming and launching of the Type 12 frigate Yarmouth (1959), taken from abreast the port bow of the ship. The ship's sponsor, Mrs Maureen Catherine Allan, is holding a pair of scissors standing to the left of the microphone and is being assisted by Sir James McFadyen McNeill. Her husband, Robert Alexander Allan, DSO, OBE, MP, Financial Secretary to the Admiralty, is to the right of the microphone.
