Yarmouth (1959) on launch day.
A 4x5 glass plate negative. Guests gathered on the launching platform in the East Yard of John Brown & Co Ltd's shipyard at Clydebank for the naming and launching of the Type 12 frigate Yarmouth (1959), taken from abreast the port bow of the ship. The ship's sponsor, Mrs Maureen Catherine Allan, is standing to the left of the central microphone and her husband, Robert Alexander Allan, DSO, OBE, MP, Financial Secretary to the Admiralty, is to the right of the microphone. Sir James McFadyen McNeill is standing next to Mrs Allan holding an ornate pair of scissors and a small card and appears to be explaining the procedure to her. All the male guests have their hats removed except for a Royal Navy admiral who is replacing his cap.
