A port side view of the Anchor Line cruise ship California (1923) at anchor in an unknown location.
A port side view, taken from well ahead of the beam, of the Anchor Line cruise ship California (1923) at anchor in an unknown location. The starboard anchor is deployed. One of the ship's boats is swung out but is still griped in its falls near the stern of the ship. No. 2 set of davits are empty. The accommodation ladder is rigged at a midships shell door. A number of local bumboats are clustered close to the ship's side aft and a couple of the local boats are close to the bow where a sailor seems to be directing a water hose over the side from the forecastle deck area. The Anchor Line flag is flying from the bow jackstaff and a vertical band tricolour courtesy flag is at the foremast head.
