A 35mm roll film negative. On board the Rothesay class type 12 frigate Rhyl (1959) in Devonport Dockyard. In the junior rates mess on 3 deck between 68 and 75 stations. The photographer is looking forward and slightly to starboard on the port side of the mess showing three collapsible tables put together with 9 tubular steel chairs round them. Two spitoons are on the deck. On the left are three twin bunk units rigged for sitting. In the right foreground are lockers and an electric fire. Kit lockers and a fan ventilation unit are against the forward bulkhead and in the centre of the forward bulkhead is a watertight door leading to the mortar metadyne room. The photograph was taken prior to 9 May 1972.
