A 35mm roll film negative. On board the Rothesay class type 12 frigate Rhyl (1959) in Devonport Dockyard. In the steering gear compartment on 3 deck between 75 and 80 stations. The photographer is looking aft on the starboard side from the forward end of the compartment showing, on the right, the enclosed steering gear with coils of wire on a hook. On the left are three drums of glycerine and a locker for greases. A large coil of rope and a spare rope ladder are on a shelf at the stern. The photograph was taken prior to 9 May 1972. A vertical format negative.
