Hermes (1953). In the bakery on 5 deck during conversion.
A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the bakery on the port side of 5 deck between 20 and 30 stations. He is looking to port from the aft end of the bakery showing the arched opening into the bread cooling space. On the left is a stainless steel worktop with shelves and drawers under. On the worktop are storage bins and an Hobart electric mixer. Sacks of flour are under the worktop. On the right is a long worktop bench with pots of glace cherries on it and a large dough mixing machine next to it. A small worktop has a tray of eggs on it. On the cooling space bulkhead are two framed notices re 'Safety precautions in operation of galley equipment' and 'Electric cooking equipment instructions for use'.
