A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in one of the 15 commando group other ranks messes on 4 deck between stations 96 and 177, showing a watertight hatch marked 9PB2-00 in the foreground. On the left is a Field Surgical Team Medical Element crate marked K5. Four large steel units, each with two lifting handles at the end, are on the deck. A padlocked equipment locker is against the bulkhead and an automatic emergency lantern is on the right.
