Hermes (1953). The weapons lift on 4 deck during conversion.

A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the lobby between the weapons lift and the commando group other ranks mess on the port side of 4 deck between 166 and 168½ stations. He is looking aft through the door in station 166 to the weapons lift and two men are carrying a stretcher out. The commando group other ranks mess would be used as an emergency casualty sorting area if necessary, using the weapons lift to get casualties down from the hangar deck. A vertical format negative.
