A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the junior rates and other ranks dining hall and counter area on 4 deck between 40 and 50 stations. He is looking forward and to starboard from between the tables in the centre of the hall. There are four watertight doors in the forward bulkhead and two watertight hatches are close to the bulkhead. Automatic emergency lanterns, a tannoy and a 'Whereabouts diagram E section 40-50' notice are on the bulkhead. The self service counters are in the right background.
