Hermes (1953) in Plymouth Sound
A 35mm roll film negative. A starboard quarter view, taken from wide off the stern, of the commando carrier Hermes (1953) about to drop anchor in Plymouth Sound in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. Her pendant number is R12. A Westland Wessex HU.5 helicopter is on her forward flight deck. The 52½ feet dockyard launch 6806, also seenfrom wide off her starboard quarter, is in the foreground.
