A close detail of the starboard side of the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in No. 10 dry dock in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is looking up showing the side of the ship between 152 and 170 stations on the starboard side. The gantries to hold her forward LCVP (landing craft vehicle and personnel) are in position. The cab of her boat crane is on the right.
