A close detail of the port side of the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in No. 10 dry dock in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is looking up at the side of the ship from 146 to 166 stations on the port side showing the forward LCVP (landing craft vehicle and personnel) gantries in position.
