A close detail of the port side of the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in No. 10 dry dock in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is looking up through the supports of a dockside crane at the side of the ship from 170 to 183 stations on the port side showing the winch platform and the aft gantry of the aft LCVP (landing craft vehicle and personnel) in position.
