Hermes (1953). In the hangar (3 deck) during conversion.
A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the starboard side of the hangar at 100 station on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard. On the starboard bulkhead are two cable reels and fire point number 3 with chemical foam drums and air cylinders. Stored high up on the hangar wall are spare helicopter rotor blades on the right and large crates for 814 Squadron on the left. On the deck in the foreground is a pile of wood packing boards and a large wooden packing crate is chained to the deck.
