Hermes (1953). In the hangar (3 deck) during conversion.

A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the port side of the hangar at 90 station on 3 deck looking to starboard. On the starboard bulkhead are a NATO air panel, fire point number 3 with chemical foam drums and air cylinders, a drop tank winch and an A/C hydraulic servicing trolley and hose. Stored high up on the hangar wall are spare helicopter rotor blades on the right, large crates for 814 Squadron and a drop tank. On the deck on the right are two large wooden packing crates chained to the deck. Also chained to the deck is a large metal container for rotor blades on the left. Two wooden crates, an old mattress and an helicopter tow bar are on the deck.
