Hermes (1953). In the hangar (3 deck) during conversion.
A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in June 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the port side of the hangar at 80 station on 3 deck looking to starboard. On the starboard bulkhead are a bomb lift, watertight door, fire extinguisher and two chemical foam drums. Stored high up on the hangar wall are large crates and two drop tanks. Chained to the deck on the right is a large metal container for rotor blades.
