Hermes (1953). On the flight (1) deck during conversion.

A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the flight (1) deck looking to starboard at the port side of the island superstructure at 127 station showing an angled perforated plate next to the open watertight door to the flight deck party store. Fire points are on both sides of the door. A steel locker and a large cable reel are in front of the bow window of the aircraft control room.
