On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the flight (1) deck looking to starboard at the port side of the island superstructure at 115 station showing double watertight doors leading into a lobby on the right. Storage trays and a steel locker are by the weapons lift cover and a cable reel is on the left. The pendant number R12 and the Combined Operations badge can be seen at high level.
