Hermes (1953). On the flight (1) deck during conversion.

A 35mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the port flight (1) deck walkway looking forward towards the deck edge lift from 130 station. An avcat fuel pump is in the foreground and stairs leading down to the gallery (2) deck are just beyond the flight deck scupper. The ship's brow, some large containers and the ship's two mobile cranes are on the flight deck. The aircraft carrier Ark Royal (1950) can be seen in the background berthed at No. 5 wharf. A vertical format negative.
