On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is above the port flight (1) deck walkway looking aft from 152 station. Fire point No. 16 a steel locker and a cable reel are in the walkway. The winch and aft gantry for the forward LCVP (landing craft vehicle and personnel) is beyond the walkway and the gantries for the aft LCVP are in the background. A vertical format negative.
