On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is above the port flight (1) deck walkway looking forward from 168 station. A flight deck scupper and an avcat fuel pump and hose are in the walkway. The gantries and winch for the forward LCVP (landing craft vehicle and personnel) are beyond the walkway.
