On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the port flight (1) deck walkway looking forward from 202 station. An avcat fuel pump station is in the foreground with three cable reels and a power outlet point beyond. A dory and the LCVP gantries are on the left and the island superstructure is on the right.
