On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the starboard flight (1) deck walkway looking forward from 191 station. A fire point, two lockers and an aircraft servicing power outlet are in the walkway. The davits for the LCVPs (landing craft vehicle and personnel) and the boat crane are on the right.
