On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the starboard flight (1) deck walkway looking aft from 159 station showing two cable reels, a cupboard, a steel ladder and an aircraft servicing power outlet. A stack of planks and a pile of scaffold poles are on the flight deck. The gantries for the LCVPs (landing craft vehicle and personnel) are on the left. The submarine depot ship Forth (1938) and the submarine Andrew (1946) are alongside number 8 wharf in the background. A vertical format negative.
