On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the port walkway alongside the flight (1) deck at 112 station looking forward showing an avcat fuel pump unit, a scupper, a fire point with chemical foam locker, a steel ladder, a flat-topped locker, a fire point with a chemical foam locker, two cable reels and a glide path indicator. Containers are on the deck edge lift and a brow is on the flight deck. The aircraft carrier Ark Royal (1950) is alongside number 5 wharf in the background. A vertical format negative.
