A 35 mm roll film negative. On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is in the starboard walkway of the flight (1) deck at F station looking aft. A whip aerial and the lattice masted FU1 aircraft direction finder aerial are on the left. Three valves, a steel ladder and stowage for four wheel chocks are against the bulkhead. On the flight deck ahead of the island is the RAS (replenishment at sea) outhaul winch and alongside the island is a lorry mounted Simon telescopic platform registered 16RN22. A Coles mobile crane, a towing vehicle registered 5166RN and a large mobile crane are in the centre of the flight deck.
