On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the alaskan highway on the starboard side of the flight (1) deck at 102 station looking aft and slightly to port at the island superstructure. A fire point with chemical foam locker is on the right next to steel rungs leading to the upper RAS (replenishment at sea) point. Five grenade lockers are suitably marked. The boat crane is in the background.
