On board the commando carrier Hermes (1953) alongside 6 and 7 wharves in the north yard of Devonport Dockyard in early July 1973 towards the end of her conversion from a fixed wing aircraft carrier to a commando carrier. She recommissioned after conversion on 18 August 1973. The photographer is on the alaskan highway on the starboard side of the flight (1) deck at 108 station looking aft and slightly to port at the island superstructure. Four grenade lockers, two marked L2A2 grenades and two (a further one is out of the picture) marked No. 80 grenades. RAS (replenishment at sea) lockers and cordage reels are under the 01 deck overhang. The Outfit ETB platform and the boat crane are in the background.
