The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). In the amplifier assembly compartment or the mail office on the port side of 1 deck (see physical description)
On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960) alongside the fitting out berth of Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd at Linthouse, Glasgow. The photographer is in a small compartment between 42 and 43½ stations on the port side of 1 deck alongside the funnel. He is looking inboard from the doorway showing a desk with a drawer unit under it on the right. A stack of books is on the desk and the top volume has J.F. Jackson written on it. On the left is a two drawer filing cabinet and just above it, spot welded to the bulkhead, is an inverted lockable cupboard with COX Cast/1477 impressed on the door. On Admiralty Curator Plan No. 902504 this compartment is described as the amplifier assembly compartment but on Admiralty Curator Plan No. 902439/2 (sheet 2 of 4 as fitted drawings) it is shown as the mail office. A vertical format negative.
