The Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960). On the quarterdeck looking forward.
On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960) alongside the fitting out berth of Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd at Linthouse, Glasgow. The photographer is standing on the quarterdeck (2 deck) by the ensign staff looking forward. The towing bollards in the foreground are covered by wooden boxes. The starboard unifoxer winch is on the right. Between the awning stanchions on the centreline are a watertight hatch, berthing wire and mooring pendant reels and covered liferafts. The ship's bell is mounted on the awning stanchion abaft the mortar well and to the left of it is the port unifoxer winch. Alongside Barclay, Curle & Co's fitting out berth at Whiteinch on the north side of the River Clyde is the cargo liner City of Canberra (1961) which was launched 25 August 1961 and completed in December 1961.
