On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960) alongside the fitting out berth of Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd at Linthouse, Glasgow. The photographer is in the seamen's mess between 68 and 75 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard on the starboard side of the mess showing double bunk berths and bread lockers against the starboard side of the ship with three mess tables and stools on either side taking up much of the deck space. Kit lockers are against the forward bulkhead with more kit lockers on the left. A litter bin and stands for an electric kettle and an urn are fixed to the back of the forward kit lockers with a mess rack at the end. A hammock stowage bin is in the corner with an electric fire fixed to it and another electric fire is fixed to a pillar. The watertight hatch down to 4 deck is open. Two air conditioning units are against the forward bulkhead.
