On board the Type 12 frigate HMS Lowestoft (1960) alongside the fitting out berth of Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd at Linthouse, Glasgow. The photographer is in the steering gear compartment aft of 75 station on 3 deck looking aft and to starboard from the port side forward. One of the wire mesh panels has been removed to show the four pressure gauges mounted on the John Hastie & Co Ltd steering engine. The gauges are for the starboard aft, starboard forward, port forward and port aft cylinders.
