On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 16 and 23 stations on 2 deck, looking forward and slightly to starboard from 18 station. The closed watertight hatch leading down to the sonar compartment on 3 deck is in the foreground. The watertight door in the bulkhead at 16 station is closed but not clipped.
