On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the passageway, known as the Burma Road, between 16 and 23 stations on 2 deck, looking forward and to starboard from 22 station. The canteen is on the left with a cable stowage between the door and the serving hatch. A fire hose rack is in the right foreground. The door to the senior rates' mess is in the centre with the open watertight hatch leading to the sonar compartment on the left and the open hatch to the 4.5 inch shell room on the right. A vertical format negative.
