On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the gunnery direction officer's position between 31½ and 33½ stations on 01 deck looking forward on the port side. The gunnery direction officer's sight is in the right foreground. A loudspeaker, present range receiver, radio remote control unit and a junction box are against the forward screen. The MF/DF coil is ahead of the position and a Leander class frigate is berthed ahead of the Lowestoft. A vertical format negative.
