On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the gunnery direction officer's position between 31½ and 33½ stations on 01 deck looking to port and slightly forward. The gunnery direction officer's sight is in the right foreground. Against the port screen are various fire control instruments including a box of firing push buttons and the gun direction sight selector and reception switch. Beyond the screen are the two port side action lookout positions. The Leander class frigate Juno (1965) is in the right background.
