On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the enclosed bridge between 27½ and 31½ stations on 01 deck looking to starboard from 30 station to port of the centreline. All of the bridge windows have been covered with wooden boards. On the right is the open hatch leading down to the lobby of 1 deck. A chalk notice is propped against the bridge wing door warning 'no exit, wet paint on deck'. A table with three positions for communications ratings is against the forward bulkhead.
