On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the junior rates' mess between 23 and 27 stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard from 26 station near the centreline on the port side showing kit lockers on the left and a triple tier bunk unit on the right. An electric fire and an automatic emergency lantern are against the forward bulkhead.
