On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the engineer's office and NBCD headquarters between 47 and 49 stations on the port side of 2 deck looking aft and to port showing a desk with an Imperial 50 typewriter on it which has a stencil in it. Above the desk is a manuals and logs rack and a double cupboard. To the right of the desk is a secure filing cabinet and a clock, which is reading 03.20. On the aft bulkhead are an intercom switchboard, telephone, microphone, combination safe, electric fire and inclinometer.
