On board the Type 12 frigate Lowestoft (1960) in No. 3 basin at Chatham Dockyard near the end of her modernisation which commenced 15 March 1968 and finished 31 May 1970. She was in the basin throughout May 1970. The photographer is in the senior rates' mess between 56 and 61½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft and to port from 56 station showing the door with an electric fire, an automatic emergency lantern and a letter rack to the left of it. A double tier bunk unit with suitcase stowage under it and kit lockers alongside are on the left.
